KANDYLAS – TRADITIONAL GREEK PRODUCTS

KANDYLAS SA is a family business that specialises in traditional Greek products that attract especially those with a sweet tooth. The company has a very long history in the field of baking and pastry making.

This adventure started back in the late 1910s when Ioannis Kandylas, the grandfather of today’s owner (Stylianos Kandylas), opened a small factory in Smyrna (Asia Minor) with a few basic products: tahini, grape syrup, sesame oil and raisins.

In 1927 and after the Great Fire of Smyrna, Ioannis Kandylas moved to Thessaloniki and so did the business with him. A series of unfortunate events, though, resulted in the burning of the factory that Ioannis Kandylas had set up in Thessaloniki in 1940 and made Ioannis move to Veria, (a small town near Thessaloniki) where he and his son, Nikolaos Kandylas (father of the current owner) continued the making of traditional Greek sweets including halva and loukoumi.

In 1981, the current owner, Stylianos Kandylas, took over and introduced a new series of syrup pastries and vanilla sweets. Since then the factory kept developing by following the traditional old recipe.

Today the new generation, Giorgos and Nikos Kandylas are here to add some fresh ideas and passion to this adventure, keeping of course the tradition and high quality that runs in their family.
