Handmade Kataifi from Greece.

Kataifi is a very popular traditional dessert in the Mediterranean and Middle East countries. It is made with phyllo pastry, nuts, fresh butter and sugar syrup.

Kataifi is a cousin to Baklava, with similar ingredients, only instead of the many layers of thin phyllo pastry sheets, Kataifi is made with shredded phyllo pastry wrapped around a nutty filling. The word phyllo used in the term phyllo pastry means “leaf” in the Greek language, showing that phyllo pastry sheets (or shredded pastry bundles in this case) are as thin as leaves and when baked to perfection bring that crispy sound with every bite. Kataifi's nutty inside can consist of chopped nuts of any kind with the most common being walnuts, pistachios and almonds.

Kataifi goes really well with Greek coffee (or any other coffee). You can also enjoy it as a snack during the day or as a proper dessert served after your main dish.

This totally handmade syrup sweet from Kandylas, a small family business that keeps the tradition and specializes in Greek sweets since 1927, is going to charm you with its unique taste and flavour.
